7/14 God Only Knows (Beach Boys cover) by Evan Bilsbury
This week's review and pick Comes from the amazing Zachary Friederich, show him some love when you're done here, he knocked it out of the park with his review and he has a mountain of music ready for you to dive into when you're done here.
A giant tree fell in the forest a few weeks back. A California Redwood so tall that it cast its shade over most of the living things in the woodland, even the Beatles. That melodic titan was Brian Wilson, the songwriting genius behind what might be America's greatest band, The Beach Boys. I don't think enough was said about this great loss and so I was happy to discover Evan Bilsbury's instrumental cover of 'God Only Knows' in my SoundCloud feed. This tender version of the most famous song off Pet Sounds (though not my favorite and that honor probably goes to 'You Still Believe In Me') is a lovely tribute to a musical legend. With sweet plucks of electric piano that spill out like flowers from a vase and a gentle, breezy synth handling the main melody, this rendition is a wonderful homage to an artist whose legacy might not be measurable. Give it a listen. It'll be nice.
Thanks Zachary for playing in our sandbox this week, what an awesome pick. If you're not familiar with Zachary definitely check out his solo work and his collaborations with The New Madrid Fault Line on the album Terrorizer and his EP Strangers.
Check back next week for another rad TOTW and review
